[Washington Post] Eighties-era teen actor Corey Haim was found dead in a Los Angeles apartment in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The Los Angeles police confirmed the death to TV station KTLA this morning in what it termed an “accidental overdose.”
LA County coroner’s Lt. Cheryl MacWillie Wednesday told the Associated Press that Haim died at 2:15 a.m. at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank and that no new details will be released until the cause of death is determined by an autopsy.
As a child who grew up in the 80’s this is very sombering news. It’s only a surprise that it took this long. Nearly everyone remembers Corey Haim teaming up with the other Corey, Corey Feldman, in “Lost Boys”, but I remember him more in movies where it’s just him like “Lucas” and “Silver Bullet”. “Dream A Little Dream” would be my favorite Two Coreys movie no matter how cheesy the trailer for it is.
Like any other child star of the 80’s, Corey Haim struggled with drug addiction. He spent a lot of time going in and out of rehabs, and in recent years had tried to turn his image around to make a comeback. He even went as far to team up once again with Feldman on the reality show, The Two Coreys, which barely made it to two seasons.
“American Sunset”, a low-budget thriller, is already being billed as Haim’s last movie. In the film, Haim plays a husband trying to rescue his wife from a homicidal serial killer. According to the official Web site, the movie is to be released in the fall “on Pay TV, Cable or DVD.”
