An Octopus Crawls Out Of Water and Walks On Land [Video]

Here’s something you don’t see very often. This amazing video, captured by a family at the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in California, features the rare sight of an octopus crawling out of water and walking on dry land.

The video is especially unique because octopodes are known to be shy in the presence of humans, other creatures and even members of its own species. However, according to scientists this type of behavior is not that uncommon, though it is rarely seen by humans.

Julian Finn, a senior curator of marine invertebrates at the Museum Victoria in Australia told Scientific American that “Crawling along out of water is not uncommon for species of octopus that live in the intertidal or near shore.” The reason they venture out of the water is most likely to find some shellfish and snails to eat.
